We have been commissioned by the Smith Family to design an addition to their house on the shore of Long Island Sound.  Originally designed by Richard Meier in 1965, the Smith family house has been widely published and is known internationally.

Unfortunately, the Owner's needs have changed since the original design, thereby warranting this architectural intervention. The Owner specifically request that the integrity of the original design be respected, yet the new addition should have its own presence.

Narrative

The Smiths fell deeply in love with steel pan music on their  vacation to the Caribbean. They started a new  tradition in which each family member would learn to play the steel pan. Music became their new pastime and main bonding activity. The new addition to their house will be a music room where they come together and develop their musical talents.
