LIGHT
Form and Order Maker
This project explores the use of research techniques and conceptual sketch model building to test and formulate design ideas. The role of defining the public space and façade are emphasized. The conflict between the natural environment and build context and the resolution of these two competing patterns are used challenge students to accommodate both. The use of constraint strategies to simplify the design problem are incorporated.

We have been selected to design a non-denomination chapel for the Farmingdale State College campus. The college aims to provide a place that people of all faiths can worship and reflect on life's events. The chapel shall include a main sanctuary for fifty people, a memorial chapel and a meditation chapel. The focus for the design is based off a creative use of light.

Site Plan

I selected this site because this part of campus receives a great deal of sunlight year round and there are formal spaces situated in that area. This location also has major and minor pedestrian paths which makes it an accessible site and the lack of major vehicular paths allows for a quiet environment.
